How to mobilize the EU-critical voters?

The AEMN draws the attention of the Euro-critical voters to the importance of the participation in the EP-elections with a genuine, self-published news paper.

Recent studies and forecasts of the actual EP-elections show that the traditionalist, nationalist and EU-critical voters are the most reluctant to practice their voting rights – as a form of protest. Political analysts and political leaders are looking for the answer, how to mobilize these voters?

According to the statutes, the goals and the revised working program and the EP-election participation declaration (EP-grant application), AEMN decided to deal with the question as its basic interest to find ways of the voter mobilization. As first step AEMN implemented an experimental project to rise the EP-election awareness in order to promote the participation of the voters sympathizing with nationalist, EU-critical and EU-skeptical ideologies.

Having achieved success through  the “European level political parties” promotion project in 2013, AEMN decided to have an intensive – so called “all household – promotion of the EP-elections and introduce the ideological lines and political programs that could be an option to vote for. The geographical area of the all household promotion in 2014 was Hungary.

Based on the previous experience of using ideologically compatible intermittent political newspaper in 2013, AEMN decided to edit and print a genuine AEMN paper instead of advertisements. Additionally, the effect of the project was reinforced by a flyer program to enhance the all-household promotion.

The 12 page newspaper “Europe is voting” contained information about the EP-election system, advertorial articles, introduction of European political parties, their programs and solicitation to participate in the voting. The number of the printed material and the delivery service to all households was 4.100.000. However, the promotion flyer program was limited to 1.867.000 households due to financial constrains.

With the massive impact of the promotion, wide range of the Hungarian society could raise its awareness of the European Parliamentary Elections, European level political parties and the existence of AEMN. The promotion of the political, social activities of the party gained measurable popularity within the Hungarian society. Therefore, based on the success of the project, AEMN will consider continuing the own production newspaper project and political promotion not only in Hungary but in other geographical regions where the party has its main activities.
